Working in his first job for GCMMF in Kerala was an eye-opener as it gave him an insight into how the real India thinks. The next game changer was his stint in Frito-Lay - travelling across North-East, Bhutan and Bangladesh made him aware of the similarities and dissimilarities across regions and states. While with Mattel, he switched from Sales to Marketing. Reliance Infocom gave him the opportunity to explore the multiple functions in Marketing. Joining as the Marketing Head of HDFC Life was perhaps the biggest game changer for him as it made him reach my full potential.
Post IRMA, Sanjay plunged headlong into a professional career. However, he has taken breaks in-between to hone his skills. He did a certificate in Digital Marketing from Indian School of Business. He is presently doing an SEP at Stanford University.
Sanja believes that awards and accolades may not be the ultimate goal of any individual, but they are an affirmation of the good work you have done and an appreciation of the same. Recognition as the top performer in Sales in Frito-Lay multiple times as well as the numerous accolades he received for turning the HDFC Life brand into what it is today were the key sparks in his career. Today, Sanjay is one of the most awarded marketers in the country. He is also a recognised thought leader and industry expert.
Sanjay states that some of his ex-bosses have been his role models throughout his career. He believes that success can come only with Single-minded focus, commitment to your goals and perseverance to achieve the same. Interpersonal skills, foresight, vision, and analytical skills are also very important. As a young grad fresh out of IRMA, he found that honesty is, in fact, the only way to succeed in any field. Also, if you want to do something, put your heart and soul in it.
Sanjay would like to get IRMA back to the stature it had when he was a student. Hence, he is now actively involved in the Alumni Association.
