IRMA to recruit more teachers
The Institute for Rural Management, Anand (IRMA), has recently begun a recruitment drive for teaching staff.
In 2006, IRMA teaching staff had started thinning after Prof K Pratap Reddy had put in his papers during Verghese Kurien’s tenure as chairman. The number of teachers had plummeted to 16. The situation stabilised after Vivek Bhandari’s appointment as IRMA director the same year. It was only last year that the staff strength was increased to 23.
Public sector undertakings venture where private companies fear to tread
As private companies shy away from B-school campuses this year, public sector units (PSUs) are filling in this gap. B-schools say they have seen between 20 and 50 per cent jump in the registration of PSUs which have come to the campuses to recruit students.
For instance, at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Ghaziabad, there has been a 20 per cent jump in the number of PSUs coming for recruitment while five new companies have visited the campus this year.
The scene is similar at the Gujarat-based Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA). “This year, more number of public sector organisations have visited the campus. Companies like Bank of Baroda and SIDBI have come for the first time whereas regulars like ITC, ICICI and HDFC have been absent. The institute has, however, registered 100 per cent placements,” said Saswata Biswas, placement co-ordinator at IRMA.
Fresh blood to boost revamped IRMA
In a major revamp, country's premier rural management institute the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) has brought in changes in its board making way for fresh blood to take forward the institute set up by Father of White Revolution Dr Verghese Kurien in 1979.
For the first time since its inception, IRMA has put a cap on the tenure of its board members as well as chairman. At the same time, as many as six out of 17 board members, including some prominent names, have been replaced.
